Three Dots and a Dash

Nationally acclaimed nightlife hotspot Three Dots and a Dash in Chicago’s trendy River North neighborhood received a lighting design and installation from the JRLX team.

In 2012 we were selected to provide a complete architectural lighting system design, specification, and installation for one of Chicago’s hottest new night spots. Three Dots and a Dash transcends the traditional experience to bring an upscale tiki bar experience to the table like none other. Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises’ Three Dots and a Dash landed in the “World’s 50 Best Bar Rankings” in 2014.

JRLX specified, installed, commissioned, and programmed a complete architectural color mixing and white light system that spans the entire space.

Thousands of feet of RGB and white flexible LED tape lighting were installed with remote LED drivers scattered throughout the space; controlled by a centralized architectural control system. In addition to this, we sourced a special extremely low color temperature white LED tape product to meet the requirements for a “candle light like glow” from Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises. This special white LED tape product runs alongside the RGB LED tape in almost every cove and on the bar, as well as inside architectural treatments to temper the harsh RGB colors. We also integrated the control of this white light tape with a new Marlin Dimming System via magnetic mains-dimmable transformers.

The alcohol shelves on the bar are illuminated completely by LED linear tape installed by JRLX as well.

Since 2013 the system has been rock solid and has enhanced the experience of thousands of guests at Three Dots and a Dash.
